Nigeria: Ogun, Morocco sign MoU on energy, port development

The Ogun State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Confederation of General Employers of Morocco (CGEM) to collaborate on various sectors, including power generation and distribution, education, housing, infrastructure, and port development.
The signing ceremony, which took place at the Governor’s Office in Abeokuta, was attended by Governor Dapo Abiodun and Mr. Ali Zerouali, the Executive Vice President of CGEM. Abiodun acknowledged Morocco’s expertise in areas such as education, technology, manufacturing, and agriculture, which Ogun State aims to leverage
EnergyOgun State seeks to learn from Morocco’s experience in hydro, solar, and gas energy to reduce the cost of energy in Nigeria.
Agriculture
The state aims to partner with Morocco to establish a massive fertilizer plant in Ogun State, leveraging Morocco’s position as the largest producer of fertilizer on the continent.
Automobile Industry Ogun State plans to collaborate with Morocco to establish an automobile industry in the state, supplying vehicles to other countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Technical and Vocational Education
The state intends to partner with Morocco to strengthen existing technical colleges and train Nigerian graduates.
Infrastructure Ogun State has obtained approval for the extension of the Blue Line from Lagos to Ogun State and plans to construct a deep seaport in the state.
The partnership is expected to unlock potential and maximize benefits for both parties, strengthening economic ties between Ogun State and Morocco.
