Nigeria: ‘Not pregnant, just engaged’: Sithelo Shozi sets record straight

By Zuleihat Owuiye, Nigeria

South African DJ, influencer and businesswoman Sithelo Shozi has shut down pregnancy rumors that surfaced days after she announced her engagement, choosing instead to focus on celebrating a new chapter in her life.

The 32-year-old addressed the speculation directly in a TikTok video shared by creator Buhle Mhlabeni.

“Thank you, thank you, I appreciate it so much. Unfortunately, I’m not pregnant, but we would love to grow our family in the future. For now, we’re enjoying our moment and embracing this new chapter,” Shozi said.

The clip quickly circulated online, putting the rumors to rest while giving fans a glimpse of how Shozi is approaching this milestone: calmly, privately, and on her own terms.

Shozi first hinted at the engagement with a subtle Instagram post. The caption read: “And suddenly I am left-handed.”

The photo told the rest of the story. A close-up of her left hand showed a large oval-cut diamond catching the light. Fans immediately picked up on it, and congratulations poured in.

She later confirmed the details. The proposal happened in Italy during a birthday getaway at Lake Como. With calm water and warm evening light behind them, Shozi’s partner proposed aboard a boat.

For the occasion she wore an elegant blue-and-white mini dress. The setting matched the refined, low-key aesthetic she’s known for on social media — luxury without the noise.

Shozi has kept her future husband out of the spotlight, but reports have identified him as Zimbabwean businessman Kudzaishe James Magura.

According to those close to the couple, they were connected several years ago, lost touch, and reconnected more recently. This time around, they chose to build the relationship away from public scrutiny.

That decision fits with how Shozi has handled fame over the last few years. After being in the public eye for relationships and co-parenting conversations, she has steadily shifted her brand toward business, DJ sets, and curated lifestyle content. The engagement announcement followed that same pattern: one photo, one line, no press tour.

The news was met with an outpouring of support. Comments under her post filled with congratulations, and several celebrity friends also sent messages.

For many followers, the timing made the moment even more special. Turning 32, celebrating in one of Europe’s most iconic locations, and entering an engagement all in the same week.

The pregnancy speculation that followed was a familiar pattern for women in the public eye — an engagement announcement quickly followed by assumptions about what comes next. Shozi addressed it head-on, but without defensiveness. She acknowledged the excitement, clarified the facts, and redirected attention back to the present.

Shozi first entered mainstream conversation through reality television and her public relationships. Over time, she has worked to reshape her public image.

She now DJs regularly, runs business ventures, and maintains a strong presence on TikTok and Instagram where she shares fashion, travel, and motherhood content. Her following responds to the mix of glamour and relatability — the Lake Como proposal video is a good example.

She’s not giving interviews about the relationship. She’s not posting her fiancé’s face. She is, however, letting people in just enough to celebrate with her. That balance has helped her maintain relevance without inviting constant speculation.

The engagement also comes at a time when several South African public figures have made similar announcements. Earlier this week, director Mandla N and Miss Universe South Africa 2025 Melissa Nayimuli also revealed their engagement. It’s been a busy season for celebrity proposals, but Shozi’s stood out for how quiet and intentional it felt

For now, Shozi says she and Magura are focused on enjoying the engagement. Marriage and children may come later, but there’s no rush.

The decision to deny the pregnancy rumors so quickly also signals how she wants to control her narrative going forward. Instead of letting speculation run for days, she addressed it within the same week as the announcement.

It’s a small but telling shift. The Sithelo Shozi of 2026 isn’t reacting to headlines. She’s setting them, on her own terms.

As she put it in her TikTok: this is a new chapter. And for now, that chapter is about love, travel, and a diamond ring on Lake Como — not about what comes next.

Fans will be watching, of course. But if the past few months are any indication, Shozi will share what she wants, when she wants.
