Nigeria: 37 suspected internet fraudsters arrested in Kwara State to stand trial

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 37 suspected internet fraudsters in different locations in Ilorin, Kwara State. The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence about their alleged involvement in fraudulent internet activities.
According to the EFCC, 15 of the suspects were arrested in the Tanke Oke-Odo area of Ilorin, while 22 others were arrested in an earlier operation in other parts of the state capital. The arrests were made in areas such as Tanke, Alao Farm Estate, Yidi Road, and Irewolede.
The EFCC recovered several exhibits from the suspects, including luxury cars smartphones and high-end laptop computers Specifically, eight luxury cars and 73 mobile phones of various brands were recovered from the suspects.
The suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of an ongoing investigation. The EFCC has been cracking down on internet fraud in the country, and this arrest is one of several recent operations aimed at combating the menace.
In a related development, the EFCC had earlier arrested 59 individuals for alleged internet fraud in Abuja. The suspects were apprehended at Abacha Road in the Mararaba area, a key gateway between Nasarawa State and Abuja.
The EFCC’s efforts to combat internet fraud are part of a broader campaign to tackle corruption and economic crime in Nigeria. The commission has been working to identify and prosecute individuals involved in fraudulent activities, and to recover proceeds of crime.
