Nigeria: Kano police arrest 20-year-old over fatal robbery

A 20-year-old man, Aliyu Umar, has been arrested by the Kano State Police Command over an armed robbery and fatal attack on a resident in Danbare Quarters.
The incident occurred early Monday morning, May 5, 2025, when two suspected robbers reportedly broke into the home of 30-year-old Shehu Muhammad and attacked him with a cutlass. Police say a distress call was received at 6:40 am, prompting an immediate response from operatives deployed by Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
Muhammad was rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. One of the attackers, Umar, was apprehended at the scene and the weapon used was recovered.
Police confirm that Umar is currently in custody and cooperating with investigators. He will face charges upon completion of the investigation.
The commissioner assured the public of ongoing efforts to bring all criminal elements to justice and commended residents for promptly alerting authorities, urging continued cooperation to ensure safety across the state.
