Prof Gomez applauds former Minister for bringing Virtual Reality project to Gambia

The Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Professor Pierre Gomez has commended former Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Haddy Jatou Sey for bringing Virtual Reality project to her homeland.

The Virtual Reality (VR) Pilot Programme which is designed to empower students and educators with the essential skills and tools needed to excel in the digital age is being funded by Islamic World Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) and Avantist Education- UK.

The launch of the project coincided with the opening of a three-day master-class workshop aimed at promoting the use of educational technology to enhance teaching effectiveness and improve the quality of education.

Dr. Sey is now the director of education for ICESCO. The pilot project is currently underway in The Gambia, Paskistan, The Kingdom of Morocco and Oman.

Speaking at the launching of the VR project at the University of Education of The Gambia (UEG) in Brikama, Prof. Gomez said: “I applauded Dr. Haddy Jatou Sey, former Minister of Basic and Secondary Education of The Gambia for bringing this Programme to The Gambia.”

Moving forward, Minister Gomez said several Gambian former ministers are in the international communities but will not remember home but Madam Sey brought this important project for the country to enhance digital education and technology.

“We need this kind of people in the international communities but not people who stay there and say ‘I am the only Gambian’ in that organization,” he said.

Prof Gomez assured to inform the cabinet about the good work of former Minister Sey in an executive meeting.

The project, he said would advance digital education and technology of students and educators.

He however, called on Gambians in the international community and diaspora at large to speed-up their support to their homeland.
