Retired Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has firmly denied reports claiming he was attacked by Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The former Chief of Army Staff and ex-Nigerian Ambassador to Benin Republic responded to the story, originally shared by Senator Ali Ndume, calling it completely untrue and misleading.

Senator Ndume, who represents Borno South, had told reporters on Sunday that Buratai and his convoy were ambushed near a military base in Borno last Friday. But according to a statement issued on Monday by Buratai’s spokesperson, retired Brigadier General Sani Usman, nothing of the sort happened.

“For the record, General Buratai celebrated Eid in Abuja with his loved ones and has not left the city since,” Usman said. “The story is a fabrication meant to cause confusion and damage his reputation.”

He condemned those spreading the claim, describing them as reckless and irresponsible. “They’re simply spreading fear and lies,” he added.

Usman went on to thank Nigerians who reached out with concern after hearing the false reports. “Your support means a lot, and it’s a reminder of the respect and goodwill we still receive from people across the country.”

He ended the statement by reassuring the public that the truth will always stand firm, saying no amount of false information can tarnish the legacy of someone who dedicated his life to serving Nigeria.
