President Barrow’s Own Words: A Confession of Misplaced Priorities?

“He should come and join us,” (referring to UDP Party Leader H.E. Ousainou Darboe). “The money we are supposed to compile and put into the election, we can use that money to develop the country.” _President Adama Barrow, speaking at the MoU signing with the GDC Party.
President Barrow’s statement raises a serious question!
If he believes the money spent on elections could be used to develop the country, then he also understands the value of every dalasi of public money. So why has his government presided over years of excessive public expenditure while ordinary Gambians continue to struggle with the rising cost of living, unemployment, poor healthcare, and an underfunded education system?
This is a masterclass in political hypocrisy and a slap in the face to every Gambian struggling to survive. His administration is actively wasting millions of dalasis in public funds on state-funded election campaigns, inducements, political propaganda, and the purchase of expensive vehicles. The unchecked use of taxpayers’ money to finance the President’s political survival is the real drain on our national resources.
It shows a profound lack of empathy for President Barrow to make a mockery of national development while ordinary citizens queue at underfunded hospitals, young people face historic unemployment, and families struggle under the rising cost of living.
So President Barrow knows that this money should be used for development, yet his government consistently prioritises political inducements over clean water, electricity, and basic public services. Poor priorities are draining the country, a complete lack of fiscal discipline, and an administration that treats the national treasury as a campaign war chest.
President Barrow has now confirmed to Gambians that they are suffering because their resources are being spent on political grease instead of national progress.
