In a bid to support the needy in The Gambia, Livity of Zion Charity Organization over the weekend presented several items to the poor. The event was held at YCMA conference hall in Kanifing.
The donated items included food items, clothes, pairs of shoes, toys, stationeries, among others.
The organization also conducted free medical checkups to needy Gambians.
Nubia Lindsay, director for Livity of Zion said the gesture aimed to provide materials to needy families in The Gambia in order to improve their well-being.
“The gesture aimed to provide essential items to needy families to improve their well-being. This is for them to know that they are not alone,” she said.
The gesture, she added is part of the organization’s efforts to complement government efforts in providing for the needs of the citizenry.
“I feel so good in supporting people because I see the happiness in them,” she said.
She added that some of the needy were in dire condition, noting that she likes seeing them felling joyful and gratitude as a result of the gesture.
Lindsay commended staff and partners of Livity of Zion for their support, saying their hard work and generosity have been recognized and appreciated.
She advised the beneficiaries to make best use of the donated items, while assuring her organization’s continuous support to the poor on various aspects.
“I want to assure them that they are not alone and we will continue our support to them,” she said.
Sheriff Kejera, deputy chairperson for Livity of Zion said the organization is looking forward to getting livelihood support for the needy as well as provide free medical checkups for the needy.
“Previously, we were supporting victims of the former regime (victims of former President Jammeh) but now we extend our support to the general public.”
“Now, we are supporting many families with clothes, foodstuffs and educational support. We are also supporting the health sector by providing medical items to public health facilities,” he noted.
This gesture, he said has converged several needy people on the ground; thus, enabling the organization to interact with them more to know their needs and concerns.
Sang Marine Sambou, a beneficiary said: “I felt very happy and appreciative for the fact that I got this stuff for my family.”
“Initially, I thought the items were on sale but I later realized that they were gifts.”
He therefore thanked the charity for the gesture.
Livity of Zion was established in the United Kingdom and The Gambia as well. Its intervention areas include providing medical support to health facilities, education and social development such as bringing boreholes to deserving communities.
