U.S. to transfer D186M ex-president Jammeh forfeited funds to Gambia

The United States Government and the Government of The Republic of The Gambia have signed an agreement to initiate the transfer of $2,507,911 (approximately GMD 186 million) in recovered corruption proceeds, forfeited from a Potomac, Maryland, property tied to former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.

These funds will compensate eligible victims of the Jammeh regime, as defined under the Gambian Victims Reparations Act of 2023, which was established to benefit the people harmed by former President Jammeh’s acts of corruption and abuse of office.  

The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, with Chargé d’Affaires Robert Anderson signing on behalf of the United States, and Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Honorable Seedy K.M. Keita, signing on behalf of the Republic of The Gambia.  

This agreement reaffirms the United States government’s commitment to accountability, combating transnational financial crime, money laundering, and corruption.
