How do you want to rank standard of living?

According to HDI?

  1. Norway
  2. Germany
  3. Denmark
  4. Iceland
  5. Sweden
  6. Finland

Social progress index?

  1. Denmark
  2. Finland
  3. Iceland
  4. Norway
  5. Sweden
  6. Germany

Median household income?

  1. Norway
  2. Sweden
  3. Denmark
  4. Finland
  5. Germany
  6. Iceland

GDP (PPP) per capita, as ranked by the IMF?

  1. Norway
  2. Sweden
  3. Iceland
  4. Germany
  5. Denmark
  6. Finland

Among the various rankings I could find using Google, it would seem Norway comes out on top when money is a major factor. Norway isn’t a perfect country, but we’ve got ridiculous amounts of oil money skewing the numbers. On the other end of the spectrum, Finland is a very good country to live in, but they don’t have the sheer wealth of their Scandinavian neighbors, and this puts them low on rankings where money matters much.

There are rich people and poor people in each country, of course, but in general, they offer a standard of living that is sadly not available to billions of people on this planet.
