Nigeria:Ondo man arrested for unlawful installation as traditional ruler

By Zuleihat Owuiye, Mamos Nigeria

A self-acclaimed traditional ruler, Adekolajo Aladeseyi, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for installing himself as the Olujare of Ijare in Ifedore Local Government Area without proper authorization. Four others involved in the unauthorized installation were also apprehended.

Aladeseyi’s installation didn’t follow due legal process and lacked approval from local and state governments.

The suspects were arrested on the orders of the state government to maintain peace and prevent potential unrest.

The suspects will face prosecution upon completion of investigations

The Olujare stool has been vacant since the death of Oba Adebamigbe Oluwagbemigun, Kokotiri II, four years ago.

The community has been awaiting the selection of a new ruler, but the process has been marred by disputes and claims of irregularities.
