Gunmen invaded Ilara town in the Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday night, killing two people and abducting a well-known businessman identified as Ade Bendel.
According to residents, the attackers stormed the area around 11 p.m., firing shots indiscriminately. The town’s monarch confirmed that two individuals were killed during the attack. The businessman’s vehicle was later found abandoned in Sabe, a community in the Republic of Benin, suggesting that the kidnappers fled across the border.
A local youth leader explained that the gunmen had followed the businessman to his hotel, where they opened fire. Among the victims was a female hotel staff member, reportedly killed by a stray bullet. Several others sustained injuries, including two women who fell into a ditch while fleeing the gunshots.
The incident has left the community shaken, with residents expressing fear over the growing insecurity. Authorities have yet to release a full account of the event, although a police officer confirmed the abduction. The police spokesperson noted that further details were being gathered.
