Afrobeats singer Davido has claimed that the Nigerian music industry came to a standstill when he took a three-month break from social media in 2025 following the tragic death of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke. In a recent interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden, Davido revealed that both fans and trolls were eagerly awaiting his return to social media.
Davido stated, “I knew that people love me because when I was not active online, the whole [Nigerian music] industry was shut down. I was seeing tweets like, ‘We do love him’, ‘It’s so quiet out here’, ‘Davido come back.’ Even the fans who hate me were like, ‘Please, come back, we need to bash you’.” This statement highlights the significant impact Davido has on the Nigerian music industry.
Davido took a break from social media in November 2025 after losing his son, Ifeanyi, to a swimming pool accident at his Lagos mansion. He returned to social media in March 2025 to announce his fourth album, ‘Timeless’, amid much excitement.
This revelation showcases Davido’s immense influence on the Nigerian music industry. His absence from social media led to a noticeable decline in activity, with fans and critics alike eagerly awaiting his return. This demonstrates the significant role he plays in shaping the industry and its conversations.
