Nigeria: Student’s tragic death sparks police investigation in Imo

A nursing student from Abia State, identified as Wendy Achumba, has been found dead in her off-campus apartment at the College of Nursing, Umulogho, in Imo State. The incident has sparked widespread concern and a police investigation.
According to sources, Achumba had just completed her Midwifery program and was pursuing Post Basic studies at the institution. Her lifeless body was discovered in her apartment within the school premises.
The police have confirmed the incident and announced the arrest of one suspect for questioning. The Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated that a manhunt has been launched for other suspected members of the gang involved in the crime.
“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Okoye said in a statement.
“Following the report, the DPO and operatives promptly visited the scene for an on-the-spot assessment, after which the body was recovered and deposited at the morgue, while investigation has commenced to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and arrest those responsible.
“Meanwhile, one suspect has been arrested for preliminary questioning to assist ongoing investigations.
“The Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice.”
The police statement urged anyone with information to come forward, as the investigation continues.
The College of Nursing community is in mourning, with students and staff shocked by the tragic event. Achumba’s family in Abia State has been informed, and condolences are pouring in.
The Imo State government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
