The Kano State Police Command has recovered a total of nine unexploded ordnances (UXOs) from the site of a recent explosion at Yongxing Steel Company, located along Ring Road in the Mariri area of Kano.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, made this known in a statement released on Sunday. He clarified that the explosion was caused by a UXO, not an improvised explosive device as was initially feared.

According to the statement, two additional devices were found, adding to the seven previously recovered, making it nine unexploded bombs in total.

Investigations revealed that the UXOs were unknowingly transported alongside scrap metal from Yobe State. One of the devices detonated accidentally while the materials were being offloaded at the steel company.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reassured residents that there was no ongoing threat to public safety and urged calm. He also encouraged the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activity.

Bakori expressed condolences to the families of the five people who died in the explosion and wished a quick recovery to those injured, who are currently receiving treatment at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital.

President Bola Tinubu also condemned the incident, describing it as a tragic and cowardly act. His message was conveyed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
