Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the May 24 attack on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat in Bauchi. The incident occurred during a factional governorship declaration event and led to vandalism and disruption of party activities.
According to police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib, unidentified persons stormed the PDP Secretariat along Maiduguri Bypass while a governorship primary was ongoing. The attackers tore down campaign banners of a governorship aspirant, smashed windscreens of parked vehicles, and fled on motorcycles. The disruption caused panic and drew widespread attention on social media.
Both are being investigated for criminal conspiracy, disturbance of public peace, and malicious damage. They have been transferred to the Violent Crime Response Unit and will be charged to court after investigations.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu warned against political violence and thuggery, especially as election activities intensify. He assured residents that the command will maintain law and order and will not tolerate acts that threaten public peace.
