Music star Peter Okoye has testified against his older brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, in a N1.38 billion money laundering case. Jude Okoye is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) alongside his company, Northside Music Limited.
Peter Okoye told the Federal High Court in Lagos that Jude Okoye secretly registered a new company, Northside Music Limited, in his wife’s name and used it to divert royalties belonging to the defunct music group, P-Square. He claimed that Jude controlled all the money and refused to provide him with backend reports and catalogues for P-Square’s music.
Peter Okoye discovered that Jude had incorporated Northside Music Limited without informing him or his twin brother, Paul.
Jude’s wife owns 80% of the company, while Jude owns 20%.
Peter claimed that Jude refused to provide him with backend reports and catalogues for P-Square’s music, citing lack of access to group accounts.
He discovered that the same aggregators managing P-Square’s catalogue were handling projects for Jude and Paul.
The case has been adjourned to June 4 for cross-examination. Peter Okoye’s testimony provides insight into the financial dealings of P-Square and the alleged mismanagement by Jude Okoye.
