Nigeria: Osun 2026: Oyebamiji denies link to criminality, alleges campaign impersonation

By Zuleihat Owuiye, Nigeria

All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship candidate for Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, says his campaign has no ties to criminal activity and has accused political opponents of impersonating his movement.

Speaking to journalists on Friday after Jumat prayers at Mallam Tope Central Mosque in Osogbo, Oyebamiji said reports of vehicles branded with his campaign materials being used for crime were the work of “desperate elements” trying to damage his reputation.

“I also used the opportunity to address the disturbing reports of mischief by desperate elements who are branding vehicles with my campaign materials to perpetrate criminal acts and tarnish my name,” he said.

He urged security agencies and Osun residents to remain vigilant and not fall for what he described as tactics of deception and fear.

Oyebamiji maintained that he has always conducted his personal and political affairs with integrity and respect for the law.

“I have always lived as a law-abiding citizen and I will never depart from that path. Our campaign is founded on peace, decency and issue-based engagement, and we will continue to pursue our democratic aspirations without intimidation or resorting to unlawful acts,” he said.

He added that his ambition is driven by a desire to provide purposeful leadership and responsible governance for Osun.

During the Jumat service, Oyebamiji thanked Allah for His mercy, sought divine guidance for the state, and appealed for continued prayers and support ahead of the 2026 off-cycle election.

“With the support and prayers of our people, and by the grace of God, we will build an Osun where peace, security, prosperity and justice prevail for everyone,” he said.
