Several prominent Nigerian politicians have thrown their hats into the ring for the 2027 presidential election, aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, now with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), submitted his nomination form, saying it’s time to “rescue the country.” Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi also joined the ADC, criticizing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for its “Emilokan” policy, which he claims has pushed Nigerians into hardship.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde declared his intention to run under a PDP-APM alliance, while former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi (now with NDC) vowed to serve only one term if elected. Dr. Mohammed Hayatu-Deen (ADC) has also expressed interest in the presidency.

Amaechi emphasized the need for Nigerians to vote based on competence, not identity politics. Obi criticized Tinubu’s economic policies, and Makinde called for opposition unity, citing threats to democracy and worsening economic conditions.
