A devastating road crash occurred along the Malumfashi-Kafur Road in the Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday, resulting in the loss of nine lives. The accident also left three people injured.
According to the Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Aliyu Ma’aji, the crash involved a Hummer Bus carrying 20 passengers from Lagos to Katsina. Ma’aji confirmed that 11 people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident was caused by speeding, which led to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The FRSC Command Public Relations Officer, Shamsudeen Babajo, provided an update on the condition of the injured victims.
Babajo stated that out of the 11 people taken to the hospital, three victims were referred to an orthopedic clinic for further treatment, while seven others were discharged. The accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to exercise caution while driving.
The FRSC has been working to reduce the number of road accidents in Nigeria through various initiatives, including public awareness campaigns and enforcement of traffic laws. The corps has also been collaborating with other stakeholders, including the police and state governments, to improve road safety in the country.
The Katsina State Government has also been taking steps to improve road safety in the state. The government has been working to repair and maintain roads, as well as enforcing traffic laws to prevent accidents.
The accident is a tragic reminder of the need for continued efforts to improve road safety in Nigeria. The FRSC and other stakeholders must continue to work together to reduce the number of road accidents and save lives.
