Nigeria: Katsina police rescue 11 kidnaped victims, launch manhunt for suspects

The Katsina State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected gunmen after rescuing 11 victims in a gun battle on Sunday night, June 8, 2025. A joint security team comprising police operatives, mil,an Daji operatives, and vigilantes encountered the bandits along the Danmusa to Mara Dangeza village road during a routine patrol.
The security team engaged the gunmen in a gun duel, forcing them to flee and abandon the victims. The rescued victims include nine females and two males, kidnapped from various locations within the state. The victims’ names and ages are:
1. Isah Isma’il, male, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
2. Zainab Musa, female, 12, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
3. Jamila Musa, female, 45, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
4. Abikara Isah, female, 12, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
5. Shaawa Sani, female, 35, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
6. Hauwa’u Mujitafa, female, 25, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
7. Hajara Sani, female, 23, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
8. Musa Suleman, male, 15, from Bakan Village, Musawa LGA
9. Zahariya Nasiru, female, 17, from Danmusa LGA
10. Zahara Isah, female, 18, from Damawa Village, Kankara LGA
11. Maijidda Fahat, female, 30, from Danmusa LGA
The police have commenced an investigation into the incident and launched a manhunt for the fleeing suspects. The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their bravery and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting kidnapping in the state.
The police urged residents to provide timely information by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via emergency numbers, enhancing security operations in the state.
