The Kano State Police Command has successfully conducted a three-day clearance operation, arresting 51 suspects and recovering dangerous weapons and illicit drugs in several volatile communities across the Kano metropolis. The operation, which took place from June 13 to June 15, targeted known criminal hideouts in Kano Municipal, Dala, Gwale, and Tarauni local government areas.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested with weapons often used to terrorize residents, and the clampdown was part of ongoing efforts to rid the state capital of thuggery and its associated crimes. The police listed the names and aliases of the suspects, many of whom are in their early twenties and hail from neighborhoods such as Sheka, Hausawa, Bachirawa, and Zango.
Notorious individuals like Ayuba Zakariyya, also known as Shamakin, 24; Aliyu Usaini, also known as Aliko, 23; and Abdulsalam Abubakar, 19, were among those arrested. The police warned that brandishing weapons under the guise of traditional performances, such as the controversial Kidan Gangi, would no longer be tolerated.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, emphasized that such displays on social media platforms only serve to encourage and recruit teenagers into criminal gangs. He urged parents and guardians to take greater responsibility in monitoring their children’s movements and online activities, warning that those found conspiring with their wards to conceal weapons or allowing such to be kept at home would be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
The police also warned blacksmiths who manufacture dangerous weapons for youths would face the full wrath of the law. Residents are encouraged to support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities, with the assurance that all reports would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
This operation demonstrates the Kano State Police Command’s commitment to tackling thuggery and its associated crimes, ensuring the safety and security of residents.
