Sherifat Bamidele has approached an Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, seeking to dissolve her marriage to Suleiman Popoola, citing his failure to fulfill his responsibilities as a husband.
According to Bamidele, the marriage, conducted in March 2024 under Islamic rites, has become unbearable due to Popoola’s alleged neglect. She claimed he does not contribute financially or otherwise to the household, leaving her solely responsible for rent, feeding, and caring for the child she brought into the marriage.
“I’m the one covering all the bills—rent, food, house upkeep—and caring for my child alone. I’m tired of this lifestyle and want a divorce,” she told the court.
Judge Toyin Aluko adjourned the case to August 12 for mention.
