The Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Olutunji Disu, has ordered immediate disciplinary action against officers linked to the fatal shooting of a civilian in Effurun, Delta State.

In a directive issued on Wednesday, the IGP described the shooting as “regrettable” and instructed the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, to commence a thorough investigation and ensure all indicted officers face due process.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains committed to upholding the rule of law and protecting citizens’ rights. Any act of unprofessionalism or misuse of firearms will not be condoned,” Disu said.

He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured the public that the Force will be transparent with the investigation’s findings. The IGP also urged residents of Effurun to remain calm and avoid reprisals while disciplinary and legal steps are taken.

Authorities have yet to release the names of the officers involved or the full details of the incident pending the outcome of the probe.
