Nigeria: Dominican Republic’s Joheirry Mola Dominguez crowned Miss World 2026

The Dominican Republic has a new global ambassador of beauty and purpose.Joheirry Mola Dominguez was crowned Miss World 2026 on Saturday, September 5, at the grand finale of the 73rd Miss World competition held in Nha Trang, Vietnam.
Dominguez, 24, beat out a strong field of finalists including representatives from Malaysia, Vietnam, Eritrea, Spain, and South Africa to take the most prestigious crown in international pageantry. She was crowned by outgoing queen *Opal Suchata Chuangsri* of Thailand, who made history last year as the first Thai woman to win Miss World.
Spain’s Elisabeth Reynés Alabern finished as first runner-up, while Malaysia’s *Taanusiya Chetty was named second runner-up.
This year’s competition placed heavy emphasis on the pageant’s “Beauty with a Purpose” platform, and Dominguez’s project stood out to both judges and the global audience.
When asked during the final question round, _“Which Beauty with a Purpose have you supported in your country, and how would you improve it if you were crowned Miss World?”_ Dominguez spoke passionately about education.
“My Beauty with a Purpose is to take English programmes to children in vulnerable communities because I believe that knowing this language can open huge doors of opportunity for them,” she said.
“I was talking to the girls and telling them that, thanks to this tool, we are here today. It gives us the ability to express our feelings and communicate our purpose. For me, it is something I will always carry in my heart, knowing that I can give these children something so important. It is a tool that will stay with them and benefit them for the rest of their lives.”
The response drew applause and reinforced why the Miss World organization describes Dominguez as a “dedicated educator, community advocate, and communicator.”
She holds a degree in Business Management and Administration from Universidad Iberoamericana. She is the founder and president of *Voices of Tomorrow*, a nonprofit that promotes English education for children and young people in underserved communities across the Dominican Republic.
Dominguez also works as a teacher, instructing Literature and Social Studies in English. In media, she serves as a correspondent for *Univision New York’s Ventana a Quisqueya*, where she covers Dominican culture, social issues, and community stories that often go unheard.
She is a professional model and also serves as a *Goya Gives Ambassador*, working on food security and community outreach programs.
Her personal motto reflects the work she’s done long before Miss World: _“The greatest gift you can offer is the opportunity that you once needed yourself in order to grow, move forward, and transform your life.”_
That philosophy was evident throughout the competition. Judges and fans noted that Dominguez carried herself with a blend of poise, intelligence, and authenticity that set her apart.
With this win, the Dominican Republic takes center stage on the Miss World platform for the next year. It marks a significant moment for the Caribbean nation, which has produced several Miss Universe winners but is now celebrating its first Miss World title.
The crowning moment in Nha Trang was emotional. As Chuangsri placed the crown on Dominguez’s head, the new queen was visibly moved, wiping away tears while waving to the crowd. The Vietnamese host city provided a vibrant backdrop, with cultural performances and a celebration of diversity that has become a hallmark of Miss World.
Dominguez will now spend the next 12 months traveling as Miss World, focusing on humanitarian projects, advocacy, and representing the organization’s core values of beauty, compassion, and service.
The Miss World organization announced that the *next edition of the pageant will be hosted in Tanzania*, marking the first time the competition will be held in East Africa. The move is expected to bring more attention to African contestants and to development projects across the continent.
For Nigeria and Africa, the 2026 pageant also brought pride. *Miss Bayelsa, Tamunosoye Karibi-George*, had earlier been crowned *Miss World Nigeria 2026* and represented the country on the global stage.
