A violent collision along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway on Thursday left a commercial minibus driver in a coma and a passenger unconscious after a speeding Ford Jeep lost control and crashed into the vehicle near Ikota School.
According to Adebayo Taofiq, spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the accident involved a white Ford Jeep with registration number KWL 574 CY and a fully loaded minibus with plate FST 207 YK. Preliminary reports indicate that the SUV was being driven at an excessive speed when the driver lost control and violently struck the minibus.
The impact was devastating. The minibus driver suffered a severe arm fracture and fell into a coma, while one of the passengers sustained intense bleeding from the nose and was found unconscious at the scene. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital by LASTMA officials, who responded swiftly with police support to manage the scene.
In reaction, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki warned motorists against reckless driving, stressing that speeding remains a major cause of fatal road incidents. He wished the victims a quick recovery and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to public safety and traffic control.
The crash adds to a series of recent road tragedies, including two fatal accidents in Ogun State in April, one involving a head-on collision caused by wrong-way driving and another where a speeding motorcycle somersaulted, leading to a fatality.
