Nigeria: Bauchi police mourn death of DPO in fatal car crash

The Bauchi State Police Command is mourning the tragic death of a 42-year-old Divisional Police Officer, Mustapha Garba, who died in a fatal car crash on Saturday, June 14, 2025. The accident occurred around 11:30 a.m. along the Bargar Tsamiya area in the Toro Local Government Area, less than an hour before his wedding Fatiha.
According to the state police spokesperson, Mohammed Wakil, the crash involved a Mercedes-Benz driven by the DPO, with two passengers onboard, and a stationary Opel Astra parked by the roadside. The DPO lost control of the vehicle after hitting a pothole, veering into the opposite lane, and crashing into the stationary car.
Two other individuals also lost their lives in the accident, including 45-year-old Mr. Shaaibu Cheski, a resident of Gumau town. Both the DPO and Cheski were pronounced dead at the Toro General Hospital, where they were rushed for treatment.
The police command stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori, immediately directed the DPO of Toro Division to mobilize personnel and evacuate the victims to the hospital. Sani-Omolori extended his condolences to the bereaved families, praying for strength and comfort during their time of grief.
The command is in mourning, and the incident has sent shockwaves through the community. The police command urged everyone to remain calm and continue to support the authorities in maintaining peace and order.
