MoYS provides D6M towards Gambia’s participation in Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Banjul, The Gambia, 18, July 2026 – The Ministry of Youth and Sport has provided GMD6 million to support Team Gambia’s participation in the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, reaffirming the Government of The Gambia’s unwavering commitment to sports development and the nation’s athletes.
The financial support will assist the Gambia Commonwealth Sports Association in meeting key operational costs associated with the country’s participation in the Games, including athlete preparation, travel, accommodation, logistics, and other essential expenses.
The contribution underscores the Government’s continued investment in sports as a vehicle for national development, youth empowerment, and international representation. It also reflects the Ministry’s confidence in Team Gambia as the nation prepares to compete on one of the world’s biggest multi-sport stages.
Speaking on the support, Commonwealth Sports Association of The Gambia President Bai Dodou Jallow expressed profound appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sport and the Government of The Gambia for their timely intervention.
“This generous contribution demonstrates the Government’s commitment to the growth of sports and the success of our athletes. It provides a significant boost to our preparations and inspires Team Gambia as we prepare to proudly represent our nation in Glasgow.”
The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games will bring together athletes from across the Commonwealth, providing Team Gambia with another opportunity to showcase the country’s sporting talent and national pride.
