For Seedy Njie to lead the charge in blocking the reintroduction of diaspora voting rights, backed by the Majority Caucus, is not just shameful, it’s outright political banditry by Ndey Jobarteh

“Attempts by several NAMs to reintroduce Clause 14, mandating the registration of Gambians living abroad, were shut down by Deputy Speaker Hon. Seedy S. Njie and the Majority Caucus. The resulting deadlock has crippled progress, with Parliament stalling at Clause 24 by 13:00 hrs. Key provisions referencing the diaspora remain, exposing contradictions in the bill.”_Yusuf Taylor, Askanwi News
For Seedy Njie to lead the charge in blocking diaspora voting, backed by the Majority Caucus, isn’t just shameful. It’s outright political banditry.
This is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise thousands of Gambians abroad who continue to sustain this country through remittances, investment, and relentless support. You cannot rob people of their rights while benefiting from their sacrifices. That is cowardice in its purest form.
The fact that he, of all people, is spearheading efforts to silence millions of citizens is not only sickening, it’s an insult to the very idea of democracy.
This is a boy who lacks the moral credibility to even occupy the seat he sits in, let alone dictate who deserves to participate in shaping the future of our nation.
The irony is deafening.
The diaspora has carried this country on its back, politically ignored for decades, yet financially depended on.We have held up The Gambia in its darkest hours.
What we are witnessing in the National Assembly is not politics as usual. It is a disgraceful and calculated effort to silence and exclude Gambians living abroad.
The deletion of Clause 14 is not an oversight, it is a betrayal. It reveals a dangerous agenda to strip diaspora citizens of their constitutional rights, while shamelessly leaving diaspora references scattered throughout the rest of the bill.
You cannot have it both ways.
The diaspora is both an economic lifeline and a political force.Denying us the right to vote is an outright attack on democracy.
The hypocrisy is staggering. The betrayal is loud. But the resistance will be louder.
We see you. We hear you. And we will not forget.
We are not outsiders. We are not silent donors. We are Gambians. And we will not be erased.
Restore Clause 14. Respect our rights.
