Fact-Check and Concerns Regarding Statements Made by Chief of Defence Staff Mr. Ceesay

It is important to clarify a number of claims made by the Chief of Defence Staff, Mr. Ceesay, during his recent interview with Peter Gomez. Firstly, Mr. Ceesay stated that President Barrow’s mother is 90 years old. This appears to be factually incorrect, considering that President Barrow was born in 1965. If this is the case, it would be biologically implausible for his mother to be 90 years old today.
Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the travel to Senegal by President Barrow’s mother. Reports indicate that security personnel who accompanied her are receiving $120 per day in per diem. This is troubling, especially if the mother is not required to make any payments for her medical checks. Why then is such a significant amount of money being spent daily on her entourage?
Additionally, the letter that surfaced demanding payment appears to reflect a higher amount than what Mr. Ceesay publicly acknowledged during his interview. This raises further questions about transparency and accountability.
It is becoming increasingly evident that President Barrow is aware of the situation in the country, yet he remains silent. One cannot help but wonder whether there are external or spiritual influences that are preventing him from taking decisive action.
The Gambian people deserve honesty, integrity, and responsible leadership. We urge those in positions of power to speak truthfully and act in the best interest of the nation.
