AG PAM BONDI SPREADS HER WINGS OVER ELON MUSK AS WELL AS DONALD TRUMP

When Trump announced his nomination of former Florida Attorney General (2011–2019) Pam Bondi, it seemed a big step up from his original choice, the ethically and legally challenged Matt Gaetz. Bondi at least had a long career as an assistant state attorney and prosecutor before her two terms as Florida’s AG.

After her terms were over, she worked briefly as a lobbyist for the nation of Qatar before joining the team defending Trump during his first impeachment. Following that move, she went to work for the Trump-connected America First Policy Institute. She is – like every other member of Trump’s Cabinet and inner circle – dedicated to Trump himself more than to the job or the country. She has been a Republican since 2000, having been a Democrat for some years before that. Bondi is pretty much all in on MAGA and an “Always Trumper” in her political stances. But just lately she has put Trump’s buddy (co-President?) Elon Musk under her aegis with almost equal zeal.

Elon Musk and his DOGE wunderkinds have disrupted the entire federal government with their haphazard approach to finding and cutting waste and fraud. They have cut staffing, closed offices, and halted the work of entire agencies and departments. They have no experience in government, no idea of what and who is necessary for the smooth running of the entire system. The havoc they have already wreaked and the promise of more to come in the social safety net (Social Security, Medicare. Medicaid, SNAP, etc.) has frightened, panicked, and angered countless American citizens. some of those citizens have acted out their angst by vandalizing and attacking Musk’s most visible and obvious symbols; Tesla vehicles and dealerships. No one is condoning the criminality of these assaults; but the frustration that drives them is at least understandable. But not to Pam Bondi. Here is her take:

In a March 20 press release, Bondi referenced her ongoing legal action against individuals accused of damaging Tesla property, stating, “The days of committing crimes without consequence have ended.”

Hmm. It is clear that the Trump-loving Bondi doesn’t see the irony in such a statement. Her boss has committed crime after crime without suffering anything resembling consequences. The 1,500 strong mob of thugs that he unleashed on the US Capitol on Jan 6 have been pardoned for their acts of theft, assaults on police, vandalism, and domestic terrorism (by definition) by that same boss, a convicted felon himself. Consequences erased.

And now she is sheltering the unelected, unconfirmed dog of war that Trump has slipped onto the federal government, almost destroying its ability to serve the American public. This dog happens to also be the wealthiest man in the world. Instead of bringing the power of her office against American citizens – most of whom have assembled and will continue to assemble peacefully and ask that their grievances be redressed – maybe Bondi should just ask Musk to install protection around his own properties. He can afford it, right?
