Nigeria: Nigeria will not fall, says Yakubu Gowon

Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has expressed confidence that Nigeria will overcome its current challenges, despite mounting political, economic, and security pressures. Gowon’s assertion came during the public presentation of his autobiography, “My Life of Duty and Allegiance,” in Abuja, where Nigeria’s political, military, and traditional elite gathered.

Gowon emphasized the importance of unity and reconciliation, citing his “No Victor, No Vanquished” policy after the civil war as a foundation for healing and rebuilding the nation. He urged Nigerians to learn from history and work towards a better future 

 praised Gowon’s leadership during Nigeria’s most challenging periods, highlighting his role in establishing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

Vice President Kashim Shettima warned against division and suspicion, emphasizing the need for Nigerians to engage honestly with their history.

Character and LeadershipEmir Sanusi argued that history remembers leaders for their character, citing Gowon’s empathy and integrity as examples for younger Nigerians.

The event underscored concerns about Nigeria’s current political tension and distrust, but also reaffirmed the nation’s resilience and potential for growth.
