The College of Cardinals is set to convene next week for a historic conclave to elect the successor to Pope Francis. Over 130 cardinals will gather to choose the next Pope, a process that is both sacred and secretive. According to Vatican analyst Reverend Tom Reese, the cardinals face significant challenges, including divisions within the Church on issues such as the blessing of same-sex marriages, the handling of the sex abuse crisis, and the role of women in the Church.

Despite these challenges, Reese believes that the cardinals will seek a candidate who will respect the legacy of Pope Francis and continue his work. “We’re not going to find anybody like Pope Francis, there’s just nobody like him,” he added, highlighting the unique qualities of the current Pope.
