The British Royal Navy has confirmed the death of Lieutenant Lily-Mae Fisher, the country’s only serving female naval commando, following a helicopter crash during a routine training exercise in southwest England.

Fisher, 31, was among three Royal Navy personnel who lost their lives when a Merlin Mk4 helicopter went down during a training flight.

A trailblazer in the military, Fisher earned her coveted green beret in 2022 after successfully completing the demanding All Arms Commando Course, which includes a gruelling 30-mile march. She was one of only a handful of women to achieve the feat.

At the time of the accident, Fisher was completing her final flight training assessment and was expected to qualify as a helicopter pilot later this month.

Beyond her military achievements, she had built a strong following on social media, where she openly discussed the unique challenges faced by women in the armed forces, including serving in demanding field conditions.

Paying tribute to her, the Ministry of Defence described Fisher as an inspiration to many, especially young women, for her determination and commitment to breaking barriers.

The deaths of Fisher and her two colleagues have sparked an outpouring of tributes across the United Kingdom as friends, fellow service members and supporters remember their service and dedication.
