Team Gambia due home tomorrow following historic medal haul at 1st ANOCA African School Games

Following Team Gambia’s outstanding performance at the inaugural ANOCA African School Games in Algeria, the first batch of athletes and officials is set to return home tomorrow, Thursday 7th August 2025.
The delegation, which includes athletes who brought pride and glory to the nation with an unprecedented 12 medals (3 Gold, 5 Silver, 4 Bronze), will arrive in Dakar on Thursday at 1:00 a.m. (August 7th). From Dakar, the team will proceed by road to The Gambia and is expected to arrive at the Barra Ferry Terminal by midday on the same day.
This return marks the homecoming of national heroes who have written a new chapter in Gambian sports history. Their performance in Algeria has elevated The Gambia’s profile in African youth sports and demonstrated the talent and potential of our young athletes.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, GNOC along with relevant stakeholders, are coordinating the team’s safe return and encourages the public to come out and give these young champions the warm welcome they deserve.
Meanwhile, it is confirmed that Nigeria will host the 2nd ANOCA African School Games in 2027.
