PRESS RELEASE – Gambia Armed Forces Reports Fire Incident at Naval Command

Banjul, The Gambia — March 28, 2025 —

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) confirms that a fire broke out this evening at approximately 1830hrs at The Naval Command in Banjul. The incident occurred while a fuel tanker belonging to Jah Oil Company was discharging the monthly fuel supply for the Gambia Navy, resulting in a severe blaze.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire tragically claimed the life of one Gambia Navy rating and injured two others. Additionally, the driver and an assistant from Jah Oil Company sustained injuries.

The naval Emergency response team with The Gambia Fire and Rescue Services acted swiftly to contain the fire. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH).

The Gambia Armed Forces extends its heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased and all affected by the incident, and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured. A full investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire, and further updates will be provided accordingly.
