President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as governor of Osun State, saying the victory reflects the confidence of the people in his leadership.

Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was declared winner of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu said he spoke with the governor earlier on Sunday to personally convey his congratulations.

“I called Governor Ademola Adeleke earlier today to congratulate him on his election victory in Osun State. His victory once again confirms the people of Osun State’s confidence in him,” the President said.

Tinubu wished Adeleke success as he begins a second term of four years, and urged him to prioritize unity and development.

“Now that he has won, Governor Adeleke must unite the people of Osun State and rally them for growth, stability, and social and economic progress, regardless of the political choices they made in the election,” he stated.

The President also commended other candidates who contested the poll, saying their participation strengthened Nigeria’s democracy.

“I salute the courage and discipline displayed by other contestants in the election. Their participation deepened and enriched our country’s democratic culture. The outcome of the election reflects the will of the people and is a fitting assurance that democracy will continue to flourish in our land,” Tinubu said.

He further praised the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and transparent process that produced a clear winner.

Adeleke’s re-election comes amid high voter turnout and heightened interest in the Osun poll. With the result now confirmed, attention shifts to governance and how the administration will deliver on its promises over the next four years.
