Three people were killed late Wednesday night when suspected herders launched a surprise attack on the Mbasombo community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The assailants reportedly stormed the village under the cover of darkness, firing weapons indiscriminately and setting houses on fire. Residents, caught off guard in their sleep, fled into nearby bushes and neighboring communities to escape the violence.

A local resident, who identified himself only as Abraham, said three bodies were recovered from the scene, and several others sustained injuries.

The attack occurred less than a day after two similar killings were reported in Gwer West Local Government Area, raising concerns about escalating violence in the region.

The chairman of Gwer East confirmed the number of fatalities and noted that calm had returned to the area. Police authorities also confirmed the incident and said investigations are ongoing.
