Nigeria: ‘The cheaters are all smiling’ – Sowore
By Zuleihat Owuiye, Nigeria
African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has accused President Bola Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi of adopting his ideas on fuel subsidy.
Sowore made the allegation in a post on X while reacting to reports that the Federal Government had introduced a 30-day petrol discount through the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
The activist-turned-politician claimed that Atiku and Obi had partially embraced his position on fuel subsidy, while Tinubu had also moved towards ideas he had previously advocated.
Commenting on the development, Sowore accused the politicians of taking credit for ideas he claimed were originally his.
“On fuel subsidy, the cheaters are all smiling after copying Sowore’s answers!” he wrote.
He compared the situation to students sitting for the same examination and submitting similar answers despite arriving at different times.
“Same examination, same copied answers, different arrival times!” he added.
Sowore further argued that adopting his ideas would not necessarily translate into political success for the three politicians.
He maintained that even if they had access to all the answers, they would still fail to deliver the expected results.
“But here’s their problem, even if it were an OPEN-BOOK EXAM, they still wouldn’t pass!” he stated.
His comments come amid renewed political debate over fuel prices and the Federal Government’s reported decision to offer a temporary petrol discount.
The development has attracted attention from opposition figures, with questions being raised about the effectiveness of the measure and its potential impact on Nigerians facing high living costs.
Sowore, who has consistently criticised successive Nigerian administrations, used the opportunity to reiterate his position that political leaders have failed to provide lasting solutions to the country’s economic challenges.
However, his claim that Tinubu, Atiku and Obi copied his ideas remains an allegation made by the AAC presidential candidate.
