A deadly terrorist attack on a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at the Kangiwa border in Kebbi State has resulted in the deaths of four people, including a local watchman and three contractors working on-site. The attack occurred on Friday, January 10, 2025, around 7:20 pm, and left the facility with significant damage to its security infrastructure.

According to a statement by the NIS spokesperson, Kenneth Udo, no immigration officers were harmed during the attack. The NIS has sent condolences to the families of the deceased and is working with sister agencies to identify and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for continued efforts to protect lives and property. The NIS remains committed to its core mandate of border security, and the attack will not deter the service from carrying out its duties.

This incident comes on the heels of a similar attack in the state, where suspected Lakurawa bandits killed four people, including a resident and three telecom contractors, in Gumki village, Arewa Local Government Area.

The Kebbi State Police Command has been working to address security concerns in the state, and the attack on the NIS facility underscores the need for sustained efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the region.

The NIS’s resolve to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice is a step in the right direction, and it is hoped that the investigation will yield results that will help prevent future attacks.
