A Sudanese paramilitary group has killed more than 200 people in a three-day assault south of Khartoum, according to a lawyers’ network. The Emergency Lawyers network reported that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) killed civilians in the White Nile state villages of al-Kadaris and al-Khelwat.

The attack sent thousands fleeing, with witnesses describing the scene as chaotic. The RSF has been accused of war crimes, including executions, kidnappings, forced disappearances, and looting.

The UN has received “horrifying reports” of dozens of women being raped and hundreds of families forced to flee. The International Rescue Committee has described the situation in Sudan as the “biggest humanitarian crisis ever recorded.”

The conflict in Sudan has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced over 12 million, and created a massive humanitarian crisis. The RSF has been accused of genocide by the US for allegedly targeting non-Arab minorities in the Darfur region.

The UN has called for an expansion of the international criminal court’s jurisdiction and a longstanding arms embargo to cover all of Sudan. The organization has also expressed concern over the continued attacks on civilians, including summary executions, sexual violence, and other human rights abuses.
