Nigeria: Police officer in Rivers State dies by suspected suicide, investigation underway

A police inspector identified as Maxwell Zubu has reportedly taken his own life in the Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Zubu was assigned as a security aide to a former chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area. The incident occurred on Tuesday, though details surrounding his death remain unclear.

According to reports, the case was initially handled by the Eagle Island police post under the Azikiwe Police Division in Illabouchi, Mile 2 Diobu. Officers from the division visited the scene to begin preliminary investigations.

The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the incident and stated that a full investigation is ongoing. The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further inquiry to determine both the immediate and underlying causes of the incident.
