Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has emphasized that Nigeria requires a leader with his wealth creation and management expertise, rather than just academic qualifications. Obi made this statement in response to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, who claimed to be more qualified for the presidency due to his PhD.
Speaking on ’60 Minutes with Kay’ on News Central, Obi highlighted his experience as a successful businessman who built reputable enterprises from scratch, locally and internationally. He noted that Nigeria needs someone who creates wealth, not just shares it, and manages resources efficiently.
Obi’s comments come amid speculation about his potential alliance with Kwankwaso, now his party mate in the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with Kwankwaso possibly becoming Obi’s running mate in 2027. Obi dismissed being labeled a “common trader”, saying trading is a challenging endeavor that requires skill.
