A scientist based in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Anietie Ikott, has warned that Nigeria may soon experience a devastating earthquake and other climate change-induced disasters. According to Ikott, the recent tremor in Abuja and some parts of South-West states is proof that Nigeria is not immune to earthquakes.

Ikott disputes the claim that Nigeria does not lie within the seismic zone, stressing that the country can experience earthquakes at any time. He emphasized that any part of Nigeria struck by an earthquake would never be the same again. The scientist pointed to frequent climate change-triggered disasters in Nigeria, including strong winds, excessive rainfall, and flooding, which have resulted in significant loss of life and property.

Some of the climate-related disasters Nigeria has faced include excessive rainfall has led to flooding, resulting in loss of thousands of lives and properties, and destruction of infrastructure in states like Niger and Borno.

Violent storms have caused destruction and loss of life in various parts of the country.

However, Ikott claims to have developed a technology that can control earthquakes, excessive rainfall, flooding, tornadoes, cyclones, hurricanes, and other extreme weather events. According to him, these disasters can be mitigated with the right technology.

Ikott’s warning highlights the need for Nigeria to take proactive measures to prepare for potential earthquakes and other natural disasters. This includes developing earthquake-resistant structures and investing in disaster prevention and mitigation technologies.
