A horrific incident has unfolded in the Ubulu-Uku area of Delta State, Nigeria, where a man, Godwin Anuka, was brutally killed by his kidnappers in the presence of his wife and two children. The family was abducted by suspected Fulani herders while working on their farm.
According to Harrison Gwamnishu, the Senior Special Assistant on Civil Society and Youth Mobilisation to the Delta State Governor, the kidnappers had initially abducted two persons on April and demanded a ransom. While hiding in the bush, they spotted Anuka and his family working on their farm and proceeded to abduct them as well.
Gwamnishu revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom and, after receiving payment, released some of the abducted persons. However, in a shocking twist, it was discovered that Anuka had been shot and killed in front of his wife and children.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many calling for increased security measures to protect citizens from the growing threat of kidnapping and banditry.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, was unreachable for comment at the time of filing this report.
This incident is the latest in a series of kidnappings and violent attacks perpetrated by suspected Fulani herders in the region. The government and security agencies must take urgent action to address this growing threat and ensure the safety of citizens.
