Nigeria: Katsina State police command foils car theft, rejects N1m bribe

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully arrested two suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen motor vehicle. According to DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, the incident occurred on April 11, 2025, when officers on routine patrol flagged down a green Toyota Corolla LE driven by Mubarak Kabir and Adamu Hashim.
During preliminary investigations, it was discovered that the vehicle was reportedly stolen from the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The suspects attempted to bribe the officers with N1m to evade justice, but the officers rejected the offer. The suspects, aged 26 and 27, are currently in custody.
Investigation and Commendation
The police are conducting ongoing investigations to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities. Katsina State Command’s Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, commended the officers for their commitment to upholding the law and exhibiting high integrity.
