The Ekiti State Government has taken swift action in response to the collapse of an uncompleted six-storey building at the Adehun area of Ado-Ekiti. The State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Karounwi Oladapo, announced that the building has been sealed off, and a thorough investigation would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse.
According to Oladapo, unconfirmed reports indicate that no lives were lost in the incident. However, the government is taking the matter seriously and is committed to ensuring that all building regulations are enforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The commissioner warned that his ministry would be firm in implementing building regulations, and urged stakeholders, particularly influential individuals and corporate organizations, to desist from trying to unduly influence government officials. He emphasized that building regulations are in place to ensure safety, durability, and efficiency in building construction.
Oladapo stated that the property has been sealed off by the government, and the ownership of the property would be taken over by the government for the time being. He described the incident as a wake-up call for the ministry and assured that the government would be more stringent in enforcing building regulations going forward.
The government will conduct a thorough investigation into the collapse, and appropriate actions would be taken based on the findings. The incident highlights the importance of strict adherence to building regulations and the need for accountability in the construction industry.
The Ekiti State Government’s response to the incident demonstrates its commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens and enforcing building regulations. The sealing of the property and promise of investigation are steps in the right direction towards preventing similar incidents in the future.
