New Athlete Commission elected

Banjul, The Gambia, May 31, 2025 – The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) has hosted the elections of the Athlete Commision earlier on Saturday at the Olympic house in Bakau.

Delegates drawned from National Associations elected 5 athletes from the 9 contestants with a four year mandate to represent the voice of athletes within the Olympic Movement in The Gambia and to advocate for their interests, both in their sporting pursuits and broader personal and professional development.

Ms. Yassin Jaal Mboob – Basketball – 19 votes

Mr. Bakary Jarjue – Wrestling – 25 votes (after second round)

Mr. Yankuba Jahateh – Triathlon -22 votes

Mr Adama Jammeh – Athletics – 16 votes

Mr. Sainey Jawo – Volleyball – 26 votes

The president of the GNOC will nominate two more athletes to complete the seven man commission. The commission will now sit and elect their chair, 1st and 2nd vice presidents, SG and Treasurer.
