GNOC celebrates Olympic Day 2026 in Farafenni

Farafenni, The Gambia, June 20, 2026 – The Gambia National Olympic Committee successfully celebrated International Olympic Day 2026 in Farafenni under the global theme “You Can Do This! Let’s Move.”
The event brought together athletes, students, sports administrators, community leaders, and members of the public in a vibrant celebration promoting physical activity, unity, and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect.
Activities commenced with a colourful march pass through the streets of Farafenni, where participants proudly displayed their support for sport and healthy living. The procession attracted significant public attention and demonstrated the community’s enthusiasm for the Olympic Movement.
A road race followed, featuring participants from different age groups competing in a spirit of friendship and fair play. The race highlighted the importance of regular physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
The celebration also showcased exciting demonstrations and competitions in Taekwondo, Karate, and Tug of War. The martial arts exhibitions displayed discipline, skill, and athletic excellence, while the tug-of-war competition encouraged teamwork, strength, and community participation.
Delivering the Olympic Day message on behalf of GNOC President Bai Dodou Jallow, 1st Vice President Lamin King Colley emphasized the importance of sport in promoting health, social inclusion, peace, and community development. He encouraged Gambians of all ages to embrace physical activity and uphold the Olympic values in their daily lives. He further reaffirmed GNOC’s commitment to expanding opportunities for sports participation across the country and supporting initiatives that inspire active and healthy communities.
The Olympic Day celebration served as a reminder that sport has the power to inspire, unite communities, and contribute to personal and social development.
GNOC extends its appreciation to all participants, volunteers, sports associations, local authorities, and partners whose support contributed to the successful organization of the event.
