Gambia: UDP expresses serious concern over continuous detention of GALA members
By Zuleihat Owuiye, Mamos Nigeria
The United Democratic Party (UDP) expresses serious concern over the continued detention of GALA youths who were arrested for alleged violations of the Public Order Act despite the fact that all evidence made available so far does not support such claims.
The UDP further observes with grave concern that these youths continue to be held beyond the seventy-two (72) hours constitutional limit without due process. Such actions undermine the rule of law, constitutional safeguards, and the fundamental rights of citizens.
We therefore call for the immediate and unconditional release of the detained youths and urge the authorities to uphold the Constitution, respect due process, and refrain from the selective application of the law.
The UDP remains committed to justice, democracy, and the protection of the constitutional rights of all Gambians.
